The Jacksonville Jaguars, on the other hand, are a different story. Competitors in your category will pick their players in this situation. Due to their dismal record during that time period, no Jaguars players were nominated to the Pro Bowl in 2021, as opposed to prior years.
The Pro Bowl is often referred to as a “population contest.” More prominent and well-known athletes tend to be given the nod for recognition. It’s unlikely that anyone will turn down the honor. There are some players who won’t play because of injuries, but they will still appreciate the honor because it is tied to contract bonuses.
In 2020, the Jaguars aren’t any better than they were before Urban Meyer’s departure. Fortunately, the Jaguars have several talented players who will be invited to the Pro Bowl if they start winning next season. In 2022, there’s a high possibility one of these five will be picked.
Josh Allen
He is a veteran of the Pro Bowl. He has 10.5 sacks and four fumble recoveries on the season. Jaguars’ best and most consistent pass rusher right now. However, in 2021, he will be back to his best after missing eight games last year.
There have been no setbacks for Allen from his knee injury last year, so he should be in good shape for this year. In addition, the Jaguars have a shot at the top choice in the NFL Draft in 2022. It might be used by Michigan’s Aidan Hutchison or Oregon’s Kayon Thibodeaux. In order to halt both attacks, the Jags would have to come up with a way to stop both.
Trevor Lawrence
David Garrard was the last Jaguars quarterback to be named to the Pro Bowl in 2009. Uggs and Michael Jackson’s death dominated headlines during this time period.
There will be a new head coach in charge of Lawrence’s growth at the Jaguars. They could sign Allen Robinson and Michael Gallop as free agents, and the team could pick up more players in the draft in the future..
By 2022, Lawrence should be eligible for his first Pro Bowl selection due to an improved roster and an improved coaching staff.
DJ Chark Jr.
Another Jaguars player has been named to the Pro Bowl. But he’s not having much luck with DJ Chark Jr. He hauled in 73 passes for 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns in 2018.
He caught 53 passes for 706 yards and five touchdowns in 2020. A lack of continuity at quarterback limited the team’s offensive output last year, as Gardner Minshew, Jake Luton, and Mike Glennon rotated.
Re-signing Chark, despite his recent catastrophic injury, should be Jacksonville’s #1 priority this offseason. A trip to the Pro Bowl in his sophomore season shouldn’t be too much out of reach.
Tyson Campbell
The Jaguars drafted Trevor Lawrence in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The selection of Travis Etienne, then just 25 years old, was a difficult one. Tyson Campbell? A cornerback out of the University of Georgia was selected by the team in the 33rd round. The decision made sense at the time since the Jags’ secondary was in need of improvement.
Although he is still a rookie, Campbell appears to have already peaked. This young cornerback has the potential to be one of the league’s best at his position. Get ready to see some Pro Bowl picks.
James Robinson
Backing up Urban Meyer’s chaotic workplace may have effected James Robinson. It began in this year’s draft. Because the Jaguars had more pressing needs than running back, Etienne’s selection in the first round seemed perplexing. Robinson also had a great rookie season. Still, a dynamic backfield seemed appealing.
Robinson may have made the Pro Bowl if he hadn’t been hurt and Meyer hadn’t disliked him. Next year he should. In a division with Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry, the former Illinois State Redbird has a chance if the Jags win a few games and make him a key part of the game plan.
